Jansz x Daniel Gray-Barnett

Following the Jamin collaboration, Jansz Tasmania continued their annual artist program for the 2022 season by commissioning Daniel Gray-Barnett, a Tasmanian illustrator with an international practice and a body of work that had taken him to The New York Times, Disney/Pixar, Kiehl's, Coachella Festival, and the Sydney Opera House. Based in the Huon Valley, Gray-Barnett remained grounded in Tasmanian life — and it was that connection to place that made him the right fit for the series.

The brief required the artwork to be applied to a gift box housing the Premium Cuvée for the Christmas gifting window, with in-store POS supporting the retail rollout. Where the Jamin collaboration extended across both a gift box and a Rosé label, this season the illustration ran at full scale on the box alone.

The artwork created for Jansz, titled Our Breath, Our Song, drew from the Pipers River region where the Jansz vineyards are located and the wider mythology of the Bass Strait. It explored the flow of time, people, and nature that shapes the land, with a palette rooted in the vines, earth, and water of the landscape. Green dominates and was chosen to represent creative energy and the deep connection to nature that runs through both Tasmanian life and the Jansz brand. Gray-Barnett worked in a combination of analogue and digital techniques, using ink, charcoal, and graphite before scanning and layering digitally.

The collaboration brought an artist of genuine international standing into the series while keeping the work unmistakably Tasmanian. Jansz Tasmania returned the following year with a new artist brief, commissioning Jess Bonde for the 2024 season.
